An Introduction to SLEFES

SIERRA LEONE FELLOWSHIP OF EVANGELICAL STUDENTS (SLEFES)

MISSION STATEMENT

"Reaching Students for Christ to Impact our Nation"

What is SLEFES?

The Sierra Leone Fellowship of Evangelical Students (SLEFES0 is a Union of Evangelical Christian Fellowships on University, Teacher Training Colleges, Technical/Vocational Institutes, Bible Colleges, other Tertiary Institutions and Christian professionals in different works of live who identify with the SLEFES vision in Sierra Leone.

It is inter-denominational. SLEFES is a member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Student (IFES) and is one of the autonomous national movements in the IFES English and Portuguese speaking African (EPSA) Region. SLEFES is also a member of the Evangelical Fellowship of Sierra Leone (EFSL).

The aims of SLEFES are Evangelism, Discipleship, Missions and Responsible Church Membership. SLEFES is not an institutionalized Church and therefore does not operate as one.

SLEFES aims to give strength of existing Christian unions and start one where none exists. Through the staff, Associates and Friends, it is hoped that Christian unions that make up SLEFES shall be more effective in reaching out to fellow students, developing them into personal disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and creating in them the desire for personal spiritual growth, Evangelism, Discipleship, Responsible Church membership and Missions - using the students as an arm of the church on various campuses.

PRESENT SITUATION

SLEFES now comprises of thirty-four (34) Christian Unions (CUs), twenty-one (21) in the Western area, five (5) in the North and eight (8) in the South-East Region. These groups vary in size but all operate on a general pattern, which emphasizes Evangelism, Personal Bible Study, Bible Explosion and Prayer. Meetings are held once or twice a week including cell-group meetings but some have daily Morning Prayer meetings except for Sunday. The CUs are Student-led through their Executive Committees which work in co-operation with the Training Secretaries. There is an Associate wing which comprises of graduates from the various CUs over Sierra Leone.
